"THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ELIJAH AND ELISHA"
In the days of the divided kingdom, in the kingdom of Israel, evil ruled the land. And there is no greater archetype of evil seen than in the reign of the apostates, Ahab and Jezebel. In those days and beyond the Lord God would send his prophets to confront Israel. The two prophets that the Lord would especially use ere Elijah and Elisha. They would be the archetype of good and their ministries would foreshadow those of John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, one cannot even begin to fully appreciate the work of John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ apart from the prophetically typological ministries of Elijah and Elisha. Come and let us return to one of the most exciting times in Old Testament history and let us study the stories of two of the most incredible prophets who ever lived.
"DEFENDING OUR BELIEFS"
We are challenged when we read in I Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” In religious circles this is referred to as apologetics. “Christian Apologetics” maybe simply defined as the defense of the Christian faith. This is easier said than done. We are going to use I Peter 3:15 as our guide and learn a clear defense to many of the questions and challenges that we will be faced with. These opportunities will give us reason and answers for our hope. We will see these opportunities from our children, our friends, colleagues, relative and those we meet briefly on a daily basis. Are we prepared to answer questions coherently and accurately? Are our answers based on the Bible and its teachings? When presented the opportunity, do we give our defense with “gentleness and respect?”
"WHAT ARE GOD’S EXPECTATION OF US?"
This class will explore what God wants from us in “considering one another” and in “love and good works”, and how we might improve on this. In Hebrews 10:24-25 we read “ And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
